Cover up for winter

Article from 'Straight from the Horse's Mouth' - May 2009

May is here and while it's the last month of autumn, it has been cold enough to feel like it's already winter.

Weight loss in horses can be easily attributed to cold temperatures, so it doesn't pay to compromise with old covers. Covers lose integrity as they get older and if they have leaking seams, you can really run into problems. Horses can also get themselves into trouble when leg straps break due to old or rotten stitching. Sometimes you can't even see the damage until it's too late and there are many cases of horses having had serious accidents - some resulting in fatal injuries - due to accidents with covers. It pays not to take a risk.

RD1 stocks a wide range of Zilco covers so if you've put off buying a winter cover until now, or you've pulled out your old cover and realised it's not going to survive another winter, then make sure you get down to RD1.

With the colder weather you may also need to start boosting your horses' nutritional intake. Check out the comprehensive feed range we have in store and take advantage of the RD1 Horse Feed Bonus Card offer.
