RD1 Teal Pasture Pack
Outperforming other grasses!
A perennial ryegrass named after their local district of Kamo is providing the pasture boost needed as Northland dairy farming couple Duncan and Jean Macky recover from severe drought.
"A lot of grass species have suffered since the drought of two years ago, so that is why we decided to try the (RD1) Teal Pack," says Duncan. "We had already tried Kamo, which is a part of the Teal Pack and we found it to be a very good grass."
Located at Purua, west of Kamo, near Whangarei, the farm milks 460 to 480 cows on a 220ha milking platform, with lower order sharemilkers Clint and Jan Going.
The RD1 Teal Pasture Pack pre-mix was sown on the property for the first time last autumn as part of the farm's pasture renovation programme. Some of the area sown includes low fertility, marginal land.
"While it is early days we are very happy with it. In terms of vigour and growth it is outperforming other grasses around it. It has also responded well to urea," says Duncan.

SEASONAL GROWTH/FLOWERING DATE: Extreme® and Kamo have a flowering date similar to Nui. They show excellent DM production in all seasons, with especially strong growth in the cool season. With Kamo AR37’s dense tillering, it is able to handle challenging conditions and Extreme AR37’s broader leaf and low aftermath heading adds quality and performance in good growing periods.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Trials have shown improved levels of water soluble carbohydrates, which can improve rumen efficiency and, therefore, animal performance.
